Wood Analysis
By means of suitable measuring equipment and plotting
procedures forecasts can be made on the value of a stem mainly for use in the manufacture of musical instruments but also in other wood-processing fields which need high-quality grown wood.
The unequivocal assessment of the annual ring structure of the stem cross-section by nondestructive measuring techniques or techniques that cause little damage is a condition for the preselection of trees that are suitable for the production of resonant wood.
==> Prerequisite for resonant wood selection and production
Extensive initial examinations of the structure of resonant wood in the form of soundboards and resonant bars with regard to its properties as, for instance, proportion of late wood, widths of the annual rings, average apparent density and the variation coefficient as a measure describing the variation of the annual ring spacing in the radial cut, were the basic condition to be able to assess the quality to be expected from the living wood on the stem.
Our institute can assess the quality of the wood to be expected from the living wood on the stem.
